About Me

Your tumble down the rabbit hole has landed you in my bit of cyberspace, a site where I blather about life, creative stuff, real food, and urban homesteading. I'm known as Cyberdelia or even my real name, Sara. Briefly: I'm an overeducated writer, artist, wannabe blisspreneur, and beginning homesteader who loves all things whimsical, colorful, and fantastical; believes in magic; loves storytelling in all sorts of forms; needs art and color and creative expression to properly function in life; loves pixel art; is a Reiki master; loves natural & herbal healing; prefers being surrounded by animals, birds, & plants; believes real whole foods can save us; believes in self-sufficiency and close community; loves growing things and learning things and tending things; and can't live without furbabies, plants, dirt, fresh air, nature, books, and a computer.

The urban homestead-to-be

For info on what this project is about, see this page.

The to-do list, as of Jan. 10, 2010:

  • Start line-drying clothes
  • Mark out potential sites of raised beds
  • Start composting kitchen waste
  • Decide what to plant first & when
  • Start digging garden beds
  • Cut back on water usage (esp when washing dishes)
  • Build the cockatiels a new larger cage for indoors, a smaller cage for outside (if they can be coaxed into it for adventures outside); make or find a small cage to keep on hand for emergencies (evacuations, etc)
  • Build a big climbing tower for Bast (my furbaby)
  • Build a vermicomposting bin and acquire worms
  • Buy only grass-fed meat
  • Find local sources for eggs, dairy, honey (meat?)
  • Make olive oil lamps
  • Plan basic food storage & prep for emergencies
Note: This list is not all-inclusive; this is my list of what I am planning to do next/fairly soon/a few weeks out. More a way to help me keep on track & be accountable than anything else. :)

Quickie weekend update

Some updates from the weekend…

alteredcollage110809A layout I did tonight for fun. I’m working on others thanks to some fantastic kits I got during Digital Scrapbooking Day/weekend. :-D

businesscardA new business card I designed for Geek Bliss! I just love using retro pinup art, and I’m going to be doing more things for GB with pinups.

I also did more photos for Geek Bliss, and listed a couple more items…

ab_1This is a new photo for Acid Burn cinnamon lip balm, named for the character “Acid Burn” played by Angelina Jolie in the movie Hackers (pic in the pic). My second-fav heroine of all time (the first is Trinity from The Matrix). For anyone reading who knows the movie, I also have a Crash Override lip balm (root beer flavor), and will soon offer a “Crash & Burn” set. ;-)

nbtr_1New photo for Nothing But the Rain unflavored lip balm, named after a line from the new Battlestar Galactica. Yep, that’s my BSG flightsuit being used as a prop, lol! My costuming hobby comes in handy in between cons. :-D

hg_2New balm to the store, Hot Geek, which is strawberry flavor. This is that yummy strawberry from way back when…the days of Maybelline lip glosses. This flavor really does take me back.

dt_1Dodge This chocomint lip balm…mmm this is possibly my favorite of them all. Just so darn good. It’s named after one of Trinity’s best lines in the first Matrix movie. And yep, that’s a pair of Trinity sunglasses and a long latex glove as props…my costuming habit coming in handy again!

rp_3Red Pill cinnamint lip balm…another Matrix-inspired balm.

Besides making lip balms, photographing them, and making art, I actually got out this weekend…

me_voj1Friday night my roommate and I went to see Vains of Jenna play, an awesome rock band out of L.A. (originally from Sweden) that’s in the same style as L.A. Guns, Faster Pussycat, Motley Crue, etc. I’m still a total rocker at heart and I was SUPER excited that VoJ were playing nearby! They sounded amazing even though sadly the club was not crowded. Le sigh. People just don’t know what they’re missing…hahaha! This pic is of me and the singer, Lizzy DeVine. He’s older than he looks—I will say that they all looked younger than I expected, which means they must not be living TOO much of a rocker lifestyle…LOL!! All the hair bands of the 80s looked decades older than they were when I saw them back in the day.

100_2212aVains of Jenna doing their thing.

I ended up having a productive AND fun weekend. Love it! I’m now off to do another layout and then watch The Ugly Truth. Tomorrow, more NaNo!
