About PWWB
“They’re happy because they eat butter!”
– Weston A. Price Foundation
“With enough butter, anything is good. “
– Julia Child
I decided to name this blog “Plays Well With Butter” to honor these two greats, as well as to give credit where it is due. I will always be grateful to the real food movement for letting me know that butter is not just a tastier choice, but that it is an essential food for vibrant health.
Butter: mmmmmm. Did I mention I was eternally grateful?
PWWB is a blog about real food: what it is, why it’s good for you, and all sorts of other topics that revolve around it. Essentially, I want to pass on what I’ve learned on my own real food journey.
The story of what led me to real food is something I’ll blog about soon. Basically, health problems led me to read labels, reading labels led me to learning about food issues, food issues led me to asking questions and making little changes, little changes led to bigger changes, and bigger changes have led me to this point: eating only real food, learning to cook from scratch, and absorbing as much about natural health as I can.
Also, I am doing all of this solo, and I’ll be writing some articles on how single people can cook for themselves. Most real food blogs I come across are geared toward cooking for a family, which is great if you’ve got people to feed, but what about us singles making do on our own? I know it was a struggle for me at first, and while it took a few adjustments, it wasn’t too hard to get into the habit of cooking. I’ve got single friends who poo-poo the idea of cooking because it seems like “too much work for just one person.” I’ve proven to myself that that’s not true, and I want to share what I’ve learned and try to convince more singles to get cookin’.
About Me
I’m an over-educated blogger, writer, and designer, with two B.A.s (one in Economics & one in English) and one M.A. (in English). I used to teach college writing, but for a laundry list of reasons, I got out of the education system. It’s not working, it’s inherently screwed, and I found out that I’m too darn idealistic to subdue my loathing of it in favor of a (minuscule) paycheck. I am becoming very interested in the “unschooling” movement, however, and homeschooling in general. However, I don’t have any kids besides the furry & feathered kind, so I’m wanting to take my educating skills in new directions.
I enjoy teaching, but I need to believe in what I teach, and I need to believe that my efforts make a real difference in the world. I didn’t have that in the system. But the more I learn about food & food issues, the more I want to help teach others about it.
A few other things about me…I’m a complete geek and *love* scifi & fantasy! I make geek-themed lip balms via Geek Bliss Themed Lip Care (website & Etsy) as well as blog about my favorite geeky things at GeekBliss.net. I even go to conventions each year and yep, I wear costumes!
I’ve got a bunch of pics up on my original blog, Avidly Dreaming, and on my Facebook page. Other interests include pixel art (I make sigtags and such for other pixel lovers at Avidly Dreaming Pixels), web design, reading, writing, gardening, animals, and hanging out with friends & having some laughs.
Thanks for visiting, and I hope you enjoy the site!

Glad you stopped by! This blog is focused on real food: cooking it, growing it, and its politics. It is also focused on the real, true health & healing that comes from eating nourishing, nutrient-rich food and developing a thriving immune system. These topics usually branch out into self-sufficiency, sustainability, and simple pleasures. For more about the project, see
