Forgive me another video post right after the previous! But I found this video on Twitter today, and I just had to share it. It’s Joel Salatin, of Polyface Farm, the amazing, outspoken farmer who is doing things right. He’s been featured in Michael Pollan’s book The Omnivore’s Dilemma and in the movie Food, Inc., and he’s written a few books himself. The title of the talk is “Pathways to Relocalization,” but in it Joel hits on everything from our disconnection from each other, the importance of hearth & home, the sham of government “food safety” regulations, and why we need to reconnect locally in order to survive globally. This was recorded just a few days ago, too. The more I read from and listen to Mr. Salatin, the more I love him. This man is just full of awesome!

I decided to write these last night when a friend asked about keeping illnesses at bay (since so many people are susceptible to the bugs that “go around”); I found myself ready to launch into explanations of this issue and that issue and did you know this? Oh and then there’s this aspect, and more about…etc, etc. etc. All kinds of information. Then I realized that if I dumped all that on her, I’d overwhelm her so much that she’d just throw up her hands and go back to popping pills! I realized I needed something simple and straightforward to offer her, and when I thought about what that might be, I realized I needed to really think it through and decide what I consider to be the place to start. I am going to come up with a simple, basic guide that is fairly easy to implement and doesn’t alienate people. I’m starting it today, and will hopefully start posting it this week. I’ll welcome feedback!

I also plan to start a page on the blog dedicated to all of my favorite real food/food issues/natural healing videos that I’ve come across over the years. So in honor of that page-to-be, here is a video that I found only late last year, but has inspired me so much that I can now say without hesitation that it is a significant source of inspiration to me. It’s got wonderful music, great ideas, and beautiful images, and I never tire of watching it. Meet the Dervaes family of San Diego…if you haven’t heard of them, go to Path to Freedom and see what amazing things they’ve done.
